Golden Eagle by EWilloughby Golden Eagle by EWilloughby
This is an illustration from part of a set of birds for a museum that unfortunately ended up not being used. In any case, that means I'm free to share it and do with it what I please. It is also for sale in my Etsy shop.

The golden eagle is one of my favorite birds of prey, and is indisputably one of the most powerful and magnificent living dinosaurs. This eagle, depicted in an attack dive, was painted in watercolor and gouache on A3-size hot-press artboard over a period of around 2-3 days.

This is amazing, certainly the best painting of my favorite extant bird I've ever seen! May I suggest sometime painting Haast's eagle? There are so few good ones out there and you make some of the best paintings of dinosaurs modern or extinct, so I think you could certainly do justice to that magnificent animal in a painting :).

Thanks, I thought you and Asazi might like this one. :> I wish my current job gave me an excuse to paint a red-tailed hawk, but alas, not so far.

Aww, that's a shame. It's so pretty though! I have a soft spot for your ancient dinosaurs, but the modern-day ones surely are neat too. Golden ealges are amazing. I really lobe the wings here.

Thanks kindly! I'm admittedly getting a little sick of painting extant dinosaurs, and am looking forward to turning my focus back towards paleoart again soon.

Wait, doesn't 'rendering' only apply to digital art?

Sorry to jump in, but no- 'rendering' is also used for traditional art. I hear my teachers using the term for traditional a lot. :D

Easy mistake to make - it does look digitally made at first glance.

Giant (about 18 meters in length) golden eagles were "thunderbirds" in the first novel I attempted to write back in '08.
