I painted this in celebration of the 10th anniversary of one of the greatest games ever, Ocarina of Time, which was on November 23rd.
It depicts the dragon Volvagia, who is also the boss of the Fire Temple, devouring Gorons within the crater of Death Mountain many years before the game takes place. The dragon used to be a feared enemy and predator of the peaceful rock people, until a hero of the Gorons defeated him with the Megaton Hammer (here depicted standing defiantly in the background). Darunia, the Goron chieftain during the events of Ocarina of Time, is descended from this nameless hero. Volvagia is later resurrected by Ganondorf with the intention to feed him delicious Gorons as a warning to the other races of Hyrule not to oppose him.
In celebration of the anniversary I wanted to draw a scene not from the game itself but from its universe and history, depicting an event integral to the story but never illustrated or described in detail. I always find game fanart more interesting that way - a better exercise in creativity and imagination, I think.
Also, this is the first watercolor painting I've attempted in many years, so it was frustrating to execute. I'm reasonably happy with the result, though.
Note the mouth dripping hot lava rather than saliva as he enjoys the taste of yummy Goron flesh.
This is cool; I kinda wish they would've showed this scene in the actual game, but I'm sure the ratings would become rated T. x) This is well detailer, also very nice with Volvagia's coolio flamed hair!
