My newest illustration was finally released today, so I'm free to upload! This is an illustration for discovery of a series of new trackways of deinonychosaur footprints from the Liujiaxia Dinosaur National Geological Park, Yongjing County, Gansu Province in China. The footprints range quite a bit in size, indicating several different taxa which could include troodontids as well as dromaeosaurs. Some are found in close proximity to titanosaur footprints (drawn based on Huanghetitan here). The deinonychosaur is represented here as a dromaeosaur genus similar in size and morphology to Deinonychus.

As always, absolutely outstanding work! :aww: I still admire how you can make your digital paintings look like traditional ones. Many congrats on the publication as well :)

Loving the color pattern on the little guy, so pretty.

The details in the background are also rather drool-worthy :D

Congratulations on the publication! This is another one of your best works IMO. The perspective really draws you into the picture: it's almost 3-dimensional. I can only imagine what an impression diorama you'd be able to make for a museum! :heart: The detail in the footprints, trees, feathers, and scales on the sauropod leg are just phenomenal.

I do have on critique, and I hope you don't mind: but the dromaeosaur's eye looks rather flat: almost as though it's popping out of the skull rather than set into it. I think this might be due to the very strong highlight on the top of the eye, as well as the type of shading on the surrounding areas (which show wonderful feather detail, but it seems to lack a little bit of the form of the skull). I hope you don't take offense to the critique, as I know this is a published piece and therefore you can't work on it anymore. But I hope my suggestion was helpful. :) I still love this drawing, and it's definitely among the highest quality paleoart I've ever seen! :heart:

Thanks Leandra. :) I seem to have trouble painting dromaeosaur eyes that you like! =p I don't mind, of course, every reasoned critique is useful to me and I appreciate the consideration. I do have to admit that I'm not entirely satisfied with this piece; it was completed within a timeframe that didn't give me quite as much time as I'd have preferred, but I tried to make the best of the time I had. A lot of small things bug me about it, including the eye of the dromaeosaur. I guess I should remember to use more bird eye reference.

I'm glad that every reasoned critique is useful to you. Sorry for always seeming to be picky about the eyes: but to me, the eyes are one of the most important features of a human, animal, or other creature so I suppose that's what I tend to be the most nitpicky about. ^^;

How much time were you given for this piece? It's extremely impressive nonetheless. :D And yeah, using actual bird eyes as references would help. I found some neat bird eye pictures on Flickr:

[link] <-- A friend of mine thinks that dromaeosaurs likely would have had eyelashes like this bird, what do you think?
[link] <--I can definitely see dromies with eyes like these. :D

I hope you didn't mind the links. =)

Congratulations on this! I really really love it.

I used google translate on the article in your link, and apparently it translates "Deinonychosaur" to "fear claw dragon class." XD
